The San Fernando de Henares City Council has presented the 2026-2027 season of activities for seniors, with 1,700 places, 300 more than the previous year. The programme starts on 5 October with over 100 groups and 40 proposals.
The mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa, and the councillor for Seniors, Guadalupe Piñas, presented this Wednesday at the José Saramago Multifunctional Centre the new 2026-2027 season for the Seniors area, which will offer 1,700 places, 300 more than the previous year. The programme, which is part of the Municipal Plan for Active Ageing and against Unwanted Loneliness, includes more than 100 groups and 40 different proposals.
The offer combines disciplines such as maintenance gymnastics, pilates, zumba, and tai chi with workshops on crafts, creative writing, and reading, memory sessions, and training in new technologies and artificial intelligence. There are also debate groups, talks, the podcast ‘Dare and We Talk’, and intergenerational Learning and Service (APS) projects. In total, more than 100 volunteer seniors participate in the organisation.
The draw for the allocation of places took place on the same Wednesday, 16 September at 12:00. The courses will begin on 5 October. The season is part of the overall offer from the City Council of nearly 6,500 places in activities for Culture, Youth, Childhood, Seniors, and the Municipal School of Music and Dance.
Seniors are not just recipients of municipal policies: they are an active part of the city, they participate, propose, collaborate, and help us build a more cohesive community,” said Mayor Javier Corpa.
The special programme for the International Day of Older Persons (1 October) will open the season. On Sunday 27 September at 11:30, the Plenary Hall will host a tribute to residents who turn 90, 100, or more years old. On the same day, at 17:00, the Eclipse Orchestra will perform at the José Saramago Multifunctional Centre as part of the weekend dances.
On 29 September at 10:00, the centre will host ‘Memory of the Gesture’, a dance activity led by Eduardo Vallejo in collaboration with the OGMIA company. On 1 October, the Plaza de España will be the stage for the reading of the manifesto by the Participation Board.
The municipal dining room for seniors reopened on 15 September after the summer. It offers 40 places with menus including a first course, second course, dessert, bread, and water for €6.50, starting at 14:00. It is possible to attend with companions and request takeaway food with prior reservation. The City Council has announced an investment of nearly €400,000 to expand the service in the former Civil Protection facilities, with its own kitchen and new spaces.
