The municipal government of Tres Cantos begins the new political term with over 97% of the electoral programme objectives met and an investment plan of €52 million for 2026-2027. The mayor, Jesús Moreno, presented the lines of action alongside the first deputy mayor, Javier Juárez.
The municipal government of Tres Cantos has started the new political term with more than 97% of the electoral programme objectives fulfilled and a roadmap focused on completing major ongoing projects and promoting new initiatives. This was announced by the mayor, Jesús Moreno, accompanied by the first deputy mayor and councillor for the Presidency, Javier Juárez, during a press conference held this morning.
The municipality faces this phase with an investment plan of over €52 million between 2026 and 2027, aimed at urban, sports, and educational transformation initiatives. According to Moreno, the economic and international context of recent years has been affected by rising costs of materials, supplies, and services.
We start this political term with a very significant part of our electoral commitments realised, in addition to new projects and challenges ahead,” Moreno noted. “We will continue to advance responsibly during these particularly decisive months, so that each initiative translates into more well-being and quality of life for all residents of Tres Cantos. We will do this in a special year, in which we will continue to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the city.
The mayor highlighted that the economic situation of the City Council allows for maintaining zero debt and a low tax burden. In the same vein, Javier Juárez emphasised that exceeding 97% of the planned objectives is due to “planning, institutional stability, and management capacity.”
Data from the survey conducted for the new General Urban Planning Plan reflects a predominantly positive assessment of the city: a score of 8.5 out of 10 in quality of life and nearly 90% of respondents believe that Tres Cantos is a better city than other nearby locations.
Among the highlighted projects is the Parque Paraninfo, the largest facility space in the Community of Madrid, covering over 135,000 square metres and designed to include 2,000 trees and more than 20,000 shrubs. Inside it is the new Concha Espina Municipal Library, in its final construction phase, alongside the future Gran Teatro Ciudad de Tres Cantos. The construction of the Infant School, whose foundation stone was laid last March and will have more than 150 places, is also progressing, as is the Familiteca, which is set to open in the coming weeks. The future Paraninfo Sports Centre will include new swimming pools and a large gym. The City Council has offered this environment for the construction of the municipality's third health centre.
In terms of urban transformation, the investment plan exceeds €29 million between 2026 and 2027. The execution of the Urban Hall, a boulevard of over six kilometres that will connect the city from one end to the other, will continue. Interventions on Viñuelas Avenue, Encuartes Avenue, La Luz Avenue, and Actores Avenue, as well as on La Fragua Street, Olmo Street, and Paseo de los Andes in Soto de Viñuelas, have either been completed or are in the final phase. The renovation of Montón de Trigo Street and Avenida de España will soon begin. The renewal extends to parks and green areas such as Central Park and Embarcaciones.
In sports, the investment plan exceeds €21 million until 2027. During the last quarter of the year, the Parque Norte Sports Complex and the new Indoor Paddle Pavilion will be inaugurated, while municipal planning includes the expansion of outdoor sports and recreational areas in Metropolitan Park. This summer, works have begun to renew the grass and improve the lighting at the Jaime Mata football field, as well as various projects at the municipal swimming pools.
The mayor also announced that 2027 will be the Year of Science and Innovation in Tres Cantos.
