The San Martín de la Vega Town Hall has tendered the second phase of the municipal road improvement project, with a budget of €303,386. The works will affect four key routes for access to agricultural estates.
The San Martín de la Vega Town Hall has opened the tendering process for the second phase of the project to repair and improve municipal roads, with a base budget of €303,386.22, VAT included. This action continues the plan initiated with the first phase, carried out at the end of last year.
The works will allow intervention on four municipally owned roads: Avenida Abogados de Atocha-Colada del Camino de Pinto, Camino del Molino, Camino de Peñarrocha, and Camino del Prado. These routes are used, among others, for access to numerous agricultural estates in the area.
The project addresses the deterioration of these roads due to the passage of time and, especially, due to runoff, which has caused the erosion of materials, gullies, settlements, and depressions at various points. All this complicates transit and makes a comprehensive intervention necessary to restore safety and passability conditions.
The works include clearing the margins to recover the original width of the roads, scarification, levelling and compaction of the platforms, adding sub-base material in sections that require it, and improving drainage, especially at points where erosion is greatest.
This second phase continues from the first, executed at the end of 2025, which involved an investment of nearly €250,000 to improve access to and from the Tierno Galván Park, the road of the Vega del Pingarrón urbanisation, and the road of Avenida del Jarama. With both actions, the total investment exceeds €550,000.
The mayor, Rafael Martínez, highlighted that “when we presented the first phase, we said that it would not be a one-off action, but the beginning of a broader project to recover our municipal roads. Today we fulfil that commitment with a second phase that exceeds €303,000 and will allow us to continue acting where we know it is necessary.”
We are aware that there are still roads that need intervention, and that is precisely why we are proposing this project in three phases. We cannot do everything at once, but we can advance in a constant, planned manner and allocate municipal resources to improve essential infrastructures, especially for our farmers,” Martínez stated.
Once the tendering process is concluded and the contract is awarded, the works for this second phase will begin, with the expectation that the works will be completed before the end of 2026. The project will be completed with a third and final phase, which is scheduled for tendering in 2027.
