The Leisure Club The Five-Legged Cat is celebrating its 25th anniversary on Saturday, September 19 at 19:00 in the Social Area of the Park of Asturias and its surroundings, in Rivas-Vaciamadrid. The entity was founded in 2001 to advocate for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities using a methodology different from the usual, based on chosen, emancipatory leisure with a reivindicative focus.
The project began with a group of young people, and over the years, other initiatives joined. The organization explains its mission: "Our mission is to improve the well-being of people with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, for the past 25 years, we have implemented various projects to enhance the quality of life of these individuals and their social inclusion, thus fighting for a more equitable, just, and inclusive society."
The entity also serves as a space to denounce situations of discrimination and social injustice affecting the community.
The anniversary party will include a photocall, a dedication book, food and drink stalls, a time capsule, and merchandise sales. Its organisers detail other activities: "There will also be highlights such as an open mic with words from past and present participants, musical bingo, an inclusive gala with award presentations, a raffle, and the screening of a commemorative video among other activities."
The event is free to access and will take place in the Park of Asturias in Rivas-Vaciamadrid on September 19 from 19:00.
