The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council will remove the separators from some unidirectional bike lanes to provide continuity and uniformity to the city's cycling network.

The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council will remove the separators from unidirectional bike lanes that share the road with a single lane for other vehicles, as long as safety conditions allow. This measure is part of the plan to standardise the city's cycling network following the connection between the east and west with the works on Junkal Street.

The actions will be accompanied by enhanced painting and horizontal signage in the sections that need it, to facilitate coexistence between bicycles and cars. The separators will remain in the bidirectional bike lanes that run through the median and in the unidirectional lanes located next to two traffic lanes.

The council has already transformed two roundabouts on Aurelio Álvarez Avenue into Dutch-style roundabouts, which increase visibility between cyclists and drivers. Additionally, it has installed smart traffic lights at 18 intersections in the city, as part of the Rivas Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) project, to adjust waiting times to actual traffic.

According to the City Council, these works respond to the agreements of the Mobility Observatory and to the needs identified in the surveys from the City Observatory and BicinRivas. The plan also aims to complete pending connections and facilitate more direct routes between neighbourhoods.
