The procession of the Holy Children fills the Historic Centre of Alcalá de Henares

Hundreds accompanied the Holy Children Justo and Pastor in the procession through Alcalá de Henares, with activities continuing until Sunday.

Hundreds of locals and visitors accompanied the patrons Justo and Pastor this Thursday in their traditional procession through the centre of Alcalá de Henares, following the mass officiated by the bishop.

Alcalá de Henares experienced one of the most emotional events of its Patron Saint Festivities in honour of the Holy Children Justo and Pastor this Thursday. The Solemn Mass and the subsequent procession gathered hundreds of residents and visitors who walked through the main streets of the Historic Centre to pay tribute to the city's patrons.

The mayor, Judith Piquet, participated in the Eucharist officiated by the bishop of Alcalá de Henares, Antonio Prieto Lucena, alongside councillors from the Government Team, members of the Municipal Corporation, and the Board of Brotherhoods. She then joined the procession, which was supported by a large presence of the public on an afternoon marked by devotion and tradition.

At the end of the route, the mayor thanked

the involvement of the organization and the participation of all the residents, who once again have contributed to keeping alive one of the most deeply rooted traditions of the city
.

The festivities continue over the weekend with a wide programme of cultural, recreational, and family activities that keeps the historic centre as the main stage. Among the proposals are the tragaldabas and unplugged games on San Juan street, the children's park with inflatables in the Huerto de los Leones, the foam party in the Plaza de Palacio, and the dances and concerts in the Plaza de Cervantes.

On Saturday, August 8, at 12:30 p.m., charity migas will be distributed for the benefit of the San Diego Scholarship in the Jardín de las Palabras, organized by the Franciscan Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus Resurrected, Our Lady of Health and Perpetual Help, and San Diego of Alcalá. On Sunday 9, at the same time, there will be a charity paella distribution for the same purpose. The charity bar will be open for three days from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For art lovers, the exhibition hall of the Quinta de Cervantes hosts until August 16 the exhibition “Brush and Chisel”, featuring works by around twenty local artists and the sculptor Carmelo G. Romo. The hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

On Sunday morning, a chess tournament will be held in the Plaza de Palacio, with absolute and under-14 categories in rapid format. Registrations, limited to 42 players per category, can be made by sending name, date of birth, ELO if available, and club to WhatsApp 684 02 78 57. There will also be guided tours of the Antiquarium of Complutum and the route “Rhymes and Legends”, with prior registration at the Tourist Office.
