The City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz is taking advantage of the summer to promote several improvement works. The most notable is the new underground passage that will connect Avenida de la Constitución with Cañada-Mancha Amarilla, with a budget of 3.65 million euros.
The City Council of Torrejón de Ardoz has launched a package of works and investments during the summer months to improve mobility and public spaces in the city. The mayor, Alejandro Navarro, has personally supervised the progress of the most significant works, among which stands out the new underground passage beneath the railway tracks.
The main action is the construction of a road that will run under the railway tracks between Avenida de la Constitución and Calle Cañada-Mancha Amarilla. The budget amounts to 3,650,000 euros and will allow for the expansion of the current pedestrian passage, incorporating two-way traffic for vehicles. The works began in November of last year and are expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2027.
This infrastructure will connect two of the main roads in the city, which will represent a significant improvement in mobility between the north and south of Torrejón. The funding is provided by the Regional Investment Plan of the Community of Madrid (PIR) and the City Council itself.
In the urban area, the lower traffic flow is being used to renew the damaged paving stones on the streets of the Central Zone. More than 450 square meters of paving stones will be improved on various streets in the centre.
Another mobility-oriented action is the construction of a new sidewalk that will connect the Soto Norte neighbourhood with the Arco Bridge over the A2. The project includes a new zebra crossing at the start of the bridge, which will facilitate access to the Casablanca Industrial Estate and the Oasiz Madrid Shopping Centre.
In the sports field, waterproofing works are being carried out at the Florencia Football Fields, in CD Londres. The works, which have been pending for some time, aim to eliminate water leaks in the underground parking lot. The affected area is 5,167.86 square meters and the budget exceeds 650,000 euros. A new waterproofing membrane will be installed and the water collection channels will be replaced with larger ones.
Finally, the beautification works of the Ronda Norte, passing through the Fronteras neighbourhood and IES León Felipe, have been completed, featuring a mural that simulates vegetation and integrates into the environment.
The mayor, Alejandro Navarro, has highlighted that “in summer we continue to work and make investments in the city that improve the quality of life for residents.” In some cases, the lower influx of people is used to advance more quickly, while in others, short-duration works are chosen to minimize inconveniences.
