The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz has published new regulations for electric scooters, imposing fines ranging from 90 to 800 euros. The rules prohibit riding for those under 14 years old, without a helmet, or on sidewalks.

The Town Hall of Torrejón de Ardoz has announced new regulations governing the use of electric scooters (VMP) in the municipality, with a penalty regime ranging from 90 to 800 euros. The measure, published this Monday, directly affects users of these vehicles, which are increasingly present on the streets of the town.

Among the main obligations, those under 14 years old are prohibited from riding these vehicles. Additionally, wearing an approved helmet is mandatory, and only one person may ride, without a passenger. Those who violate these rules face a fine of 90 euros.

Riding is also restricted: it is prohibited to ride on sidewalks, pedestrian streets, squares, and parks. Scooters may only ride on the road, not exceeding 25 km/h, and on bike lanes. This violation is also punishable by a fine of 90 euros.

The vehicle must have front and rear lighting, and during night riding, lighting or reflective clothing is required, with a fine of 90 euros. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or refusing detection tests, incurs a penalty of 500 euros. Using a mobile phone or headphones while riding is punished with 200 euros.

One of the most severe points is the obligation to register with the Directorate General of Traffic, carry an identification label, and have civil liability insurance. Riding without these requirements can result in fines of up to 800 euros.

If offenders are under 18 years old, their parents or guardians will be held responsible. The regulations aim to organise the use of these vehicles in Torrejón de Ardoz, where their presence has notably increased in recent years.

Residents using electric scooters must be aware of these rules to avoid financial penalties and contribute to safe coexistence on public roads. The regulations are already in force and will be applied throughout the municipal area.
