The initiative will offer guidelines for orientation and support for people going through a difficult time in the coming days, with special attention to the importance of listening and identifying available professionals and resources. Under the premises 'Listen, Accompany, and Care', the campaign emphasizes the value of bonds and support networks as fundamental elements for prevention.
The Councillor for Family and Equality, Sonia Lolo, stated that “through 'Connecting Protects Us' we want to remind everyone that a conversation, a question, or simply letting someone know that we are there can make a difference and provide crucial help at the right moment.”
Among the planned actions, myths and realities related to suicide will be addressed, with the aim of providing clear information and eliminating prejudices and false beliefs. “From the City Council, we want to continue fostering a city that listens, accompanies, and cares, but also to remind that there are professionals and resources to turn to when we ourselves or someone in our environment needs them,” Lolo added.
The programming will culminate on September 10 with 'Walking in Network', an initiative that will focus on the importance of strengthening social bonds to combat situations of emotional vulnerability. On that day, an institutional manifesto will be read at the entrance of the City Hall.
According to provisional data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in 2025 there were 3,808 deaths by suicide recorded in Spain, a decrease of 3.7% compared to the previous year. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that over 720,000 people die each year from this cause, which is the third leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29.
