The mountainous municipality faces two major projects from Canal de Isabel II: the replacement of asbestos cement pipes and the expansion of the treatment plant, which will serve a population that quintuples in summer.
The Town Hall of Valdemaqueda has announced that Canal de Isabel II has launched two long-demanded initiatives in the municipality: the renewal of the water distribution network in the main road and adjacent streets, and the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant (E.D.A.R.).
The first intervention involves replacing asbestos cement pipes with cast iron ones, an improvement that will affect the central area of the urban core. The second, more ambitious, includes the expansion and development of the treatment plant to adapt it to the actual needs of the municipality, especially during the summer months when the population quintuples.
The total investment exceeds 2.5 million euros, according to the council in a statement. Additionally, Valdemaqueda will join the PLAN SANEA of Canal de Isabel II, a programme aimed at the management, renewal, and adaptation of the municipal sewage system.
The works are already underway and will cause inconveniences in the daily lives of residents. Therefore, the Town Hall has expressed its gratitude for the residents' patience and apologised for any disruptions the works may cause over the coming weeks.
This initiative comes after years of community demands due to breakdowns and the limited capacity of the current infrastructure, which became overwhelmed every summer with the arrival of visitors. With these works, the municipality hopes to ensure a more reliable supply and proper treatment of wastewater throughout the year.
