The City Council of San Martín de la Vega has approved the second package of the SANEA Plan, with €3,220,712 to renew the sewer network in three major avenues and streets of the municipality.

The City Council of San Martín de la Vega has greenlit the second investment package of the SANEA Plan, equipped with €3,220,712 to improve and expand the sewer network in avenida del Jarama, calle Santa María de la Cabeza, and avenida Nicasio Sevilla. The works will be carried out by Canal de Isabel II and, according to the council, will begin in the coming weeks and will be executed in phases.

The municipality joined the plan through an agreement approved by the Plenary in January 2022, aiming to establish new sewage infrastructure in areas affected by flooding. This action seeks to resolve issues in the streets of Valdemoro, Fomento, and Plaza Cervantes, and will have a second phase in avenida San Martín.

Councillor for Works and Infrastructure, Sergio Neira, explained that the works will follow a sequence from downstream to upstream to maintain the hydraulic continuity of the system. They will begin along the public paths next to the overflow of the river Jarama.

The project will install a new system of sewers with diameters ranging from 1400 mm to 2000 mm, as well as new inspection wells and drains. Neira noted that, after ruling out the replacement of the network in the streets of Valdemoro and San Marcos, a new network will be created along calle Santa María de la Cabeza that will reach the overflow and connect with the intersection of Glorieta San Marcos and avenida San Martín.

The expected duration is one year and eight months from the start. The City Council indicated that the schedule will avoid inconveniences as much as possible, especially when the works reach Glorieta San Marcos, due to its high daily traffic levels.
