Villanueva de la Cañada will host two international competitions in modern pentathlon this August, bringing together around 300 athletes from various countries. The venues will be the sports facilities of Camilo José Cela University (UCJC), as reported by the Town Hall.
The first event is the 2026 International University Sports Federation World University Modern Pentathlon Championship, which runs until August 19 with nearly 50 university athletes. It includes the Laser Run events, which combine shooting and running, and the Obstacle Course Racing (OCR).
The event is organised by the Spanish Modern Pentathlon Federation (FEPM) in collaboration with the Town Hall and the university itself. This is the first time Villanueva de la Cañada has hosted a championship of this kind, as highlighted by the Town Hall.
From August 22 to 28, the town will be the stage for the 2026 International Modern Pentathlon Union World Championships for Under-15 and Under-19 categories. This second event will gather around 250 athletes and coaches from around the world, also at UCJC.
Throughout these days, the events for both categories and the award ceremonies will take place. The competitions are free for the public to attend, according to municipal sources, who encourage locals to enjoy the sporting spectacle.
With these events, the municipality strengthens its commitment to high-level sports and aims to attract international competitions that showcase its facilities and the town itself.
