From August 24 to 28, Alcalá de Henares offers free guided tours and exhibitions to discover its heritage during the Fairs. Reservations open on August 21.
The Alcalá de Henares Fairs once again become an opportunity to explore the city's heritage. The Tourism and Historical Heritage Departments have organised several free guided tours that will take place between August 24 and 28, along with a series of exhibitions open during these festive days.
The first proposal is ‘Discover Alcalá with your family’, a visit designed for both children and adults to uncover the history, monuments, and anecdotes of the city. The sessions will take place from August 24 to 28 at 11:00 AM, departing from the Tourist Office at the Casa de la Entrevista, on San Juan Street.
Attendance is free, but places are limited. Reservations can be made from August 21 at the tourist offices of the Capilla del Oidor and the Casa de la Entrevista, or by phone at 91 889 26 94 and 91 881 06 34.
For those who prefer the night atmosphere, the ‘Heritage by Moonlight’ cycle offers three visits between August 24 and 26 starting at 10:00 PM. On Monday, the walled enclosure will be explored, with a meeting point on Cardenal Sandoval y Rojas Street, in front of number 5; on Tuesday, entry will be allowed to the Consistorial Palace, in Plaza de Cervantes, and on Wednesday, the meeting will be at the Casa de Hippolytus, on Avenida de Madrid.
These night tours also have limited places and require prior reservation, which can be made at the tourist office of the Capilla del Oidor from August 21. The contact numbers are the same as for the family visit.
In addition to the tours, the Fairs bring several exhibitions with free access. Until August 30, the exhibition ‘The Parade of Giants and Bigheads’ can be seen at the Capilla del Oidor. In the Antonio López Room of the Old Hospital of Santa María La Rica, the exhibition ‘PHotoESPAÑA: Are you who you think you are?’ is on display, a proposal that combines humour, absurdity, exoticism, and everyday life.
The Quinta de Cervantes, on Navarro and Ledesma Street, hosts the painting and sculpture exhibition ‘Brush and Chisel’, open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. It features works by Antonio Guardeño, Antonio Luengo, José A. Martínez, Ángel Uranga, Ramón Moya, Mercedes Gavalda, Juan R. Ávalos, María del Val Mateos, Fran Atienza, Francisco Rivera, Meli Chinchilla, and Amador García, with sculptures by Carmelo G. Romo and curated by Antonio Luengo Noriega.
For residents and visitors who want to plan their agenda, it is recommended to book in advance, as both the visits and exhibitions tend to have high demand during the Fairs. The tourist offices provide detailed information on schedules and meeting points.
