The Meninas Project transforms unused fabrics, wools, and threads into three textile sculptures that will remain permanently in the three areas of the municipality. The workshops are free and do not require prior experience.
Residents of El Boalo, Cerceda, and Mataelpino have an appointment with needles and crochet from October. The Meninas Project, led by Planeta Dots and funded by the El Boalo-Cerceda-Mataelpino Town Hall, aims to transform unused fabrics, wools, threads, and garments into three large textile sculptures of Meninas. Each will be permanently displayed in one of the three areas of the municipality.
The initiative is part of the municipal programme to energise senior centres and has a community and intergenerational character. The workshops are spread across locations, always from 16:30 to 18:00 hours.
In El Boalo, sessions take place on the first and third Tuesday of the month: 6 and 20 October. In Mataelpino, on the first and third Wednesday: 7 and 21 October. And in Cerceda, on the second and fourth Wednesday: 14 and 28 October.
The programme includes textile crafts such as crochet, knitting, embroidery, patchwork, macramé, tapestry, bobbin lace, and creative recycling of clothing. The organisation does not require prior experience: you can come to learn, to share what you already know, or to lend a hand in assembling the figures.
Come to learn a technique. Come to recover a skill. Come to create something that will belong to everyone.
The activity is free and open to all audiences. The three sculptures will be installed in El Boalo, Cerceda, and Mataelpino once the assembly is completed.
