Unemployment in Móstoles falls in July to 8,980 people, the lowest figure in two decades and the first time it is below 9,000 unemployed.
The municipality of Móstoles has reached its lowest unemployment figure in the last twenty years in July 2026. According to registered unemployment data in the Community of Madrid, the number of people without work stands at 8,980, which is 38 less than the previous month.
This is the first time the town has fallen below the threshold of 9,000 unemployed, a milestone that the City Council attributes to municipal employment policies. The year-on-year rate also reflects a decrease of 106 people compared to July 2025.
Of the total unemployed, 3,542 are men and 5,438 are women. By sector, services account for the majority of unemployment, with 7,101 people, followed by construction (680), industry (544), and agriculture (69).
The mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, has valued the data as a reflection that "municipal employment promotion policies are yielding results." In a statement, he noted that measures such as support for entrepreneurship and the management of the Employment Agency with personalised interviews "keep us on the path of decreasing unemployment."
Bautista has insisted that these results "motivate us to continue working in the same direction" and emphasised that the goal is for "more and more residents of Móstoles to find employment and enable the development of their life projects in our city."
The figure provides a relief for families in the municipality, who see how the local labour market approaches levels not seen since the early 2000s. The next monthly figure, corresponding to August, will be published in early September.
