On August 12, a total solar eclipse will be partially visible from Torres de la Alameda, reaching 99.9% obscuration. It will be the first since 1905 visible in mainland Spain.

According to the Torres de la Alameda Town Hall, the path of totality will not cross the locality, but the magnitude of the phenomenon will be spectacular: almost the entire Sun will be obscured by the Moon. During the peak, the sky will darken, the temperature will noticeably drop, and an unusual sunset will be experienced.
The key times in Torres de la Alameda are as follows: the partial phase will begin at 19:30 hours, the moment of maximum obscuration (99.9%) will occur at 20:32 hours, and sunset, which will almost coincide with the end of the phenomenon, will be at 21:17 hours.
Local authorities stress the need to protect the eyes throughout the observation. Conventional sunglasses are not sufficient: only certified eclipse glasses are safe, which must be worn during all partial phases, as the Sun will never be completely obscured in Torres de la Alameda.
Remember: the eclipse will last only a few minutes, but observing without proper protection can cause permanent damage to your vision,” warns the Town Hall.
Binoculars, cameras, or telescopes should also not be used without specific solar filters, as they concentrate light and can cause instant eye injuries. The filter must always be in front of the lens, never at the eyepiece.
Children require special attention: their eyes allow more light to reach the retina and they may not be aware of the risk. It is recommended to supervise their use of eclipse glasses at all times and, for those under four or five years old, to opt for indirect viewing methods.
If after the eclipse one experiences blurred vision, difficulty distinguishing colors, a spot in the center of the visual field, or unusual sensitivity to light, the Town Hall advises visiting an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.
This eclipse is the first of three that will be visible in Spain between 2026 and 2028, making the event on August 12 a unique opportunity for the residents of Torres de la Alameda.
