The Town Hall of El Escorial has completed energy efficiency and safety works at CEIP Felipe II and CEIP Padre Gerardo Gil, with a total investment exceeding 600,000 euros.
The Town Hall of El Escorial has taken advantage of the summer to carry out a package of improvement works at two of its public educational centres, with an investment exceeding 600,000 euros. The mayor, Antonio Vicente, and the Education councillor, Antonio Lobo, visited the completion of the works on Monday to ensure the schools are ready for the start of term.
The most significant action has been the replacement of the metal carpentry at CEIP Felipe II, with a budget of 396,604 euros. Of this amount, 246,604.90 euros comes from the municipal treasury surplus and 150,000 euros from the Community of Madrid's Municipal Works and Services Cooperation Programme. The window replacement aims to improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of the building.
At the same centre, funded by the Regional Investment Programme (PIR), the vinyl flooring and wall coverings of the sports hall have been completely renewed. This action, which cost 98,141.33 euros, modernises the gym and enhances student safety. Additionally, the old boiler room has been converted into a storage area to support the kitchen, and two prefabricated and portable stands have been installed in the outdoor sports court.
At CEIP Padre Gerardo Gil, the works to replace the false ceilings and secure the vaults in the corridors of the main building are nearing completion. This intervention, funded by the Community of Madrid with 35,516.99 euros, eliminates the risk of falling debris. The height of the exterior metal enclosure has also been raised, and the intercom system at the entrance has been replaced.
The next action at this school will be the installation of a lightweight cover over part of the courtyard, also funded by the PIR, with an estimated cost of 94,295.16 euros. The project, which is currently in the bidding phase, will create new shaded areas and improve student comfort during the hotter months, and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
These improvements add to those made in previous years and respond to the council's objective of modernising educational infrastructures and enhancing student comfort. The works have been carried out during the summer period to avoid interfering with teaching activities.
