Galapagar starts the school year with 2,200 students in renovated classrooms and €400,000 in improvements

Around 2,200 students from Early Childhood and Primary Education return to classrooms in Galapagar today, and 1,500 from Secondary Education will join them tomorrow. The Town Hall has completed painting and repair work in four schools and is preparing a new investment of €400,000.

Galapagar has started the school year this Monday with the return of around 2,200 students from Early Childhood and Primary Education, to which 1,500 students from Secondary Education and Baccalaureate will be added tomorrow. The return comes after the Town Hall carried out painting, bathroom renovations, space conditioning, and repairs in the public educational centres of the municipality over the summer.

At CEIP Carlos Ruiz, the main building has been painted and work has been done in the playground, with improvements made to the two sports courts. The bathrooms for Early Childhood have also been renovated, and the painting of the perimeter of the centre is still pending. At CEIP Jacinto Benavente, the work has focused on the interior painting of the buildings, while at CEIP San Gregorio, painting, repair of blinds, and improvements to the bathrooms have been carried out. At CEIP La Navata, the sports hall has been painted.

The Town Hall has already approved the technical reports to allocate €400,000 from the Regional Investment Programme (PIR) of the Community of Madrid to a new phase of larger-scale improvements. At Carlos Ruiz, work will be done on the dining hall building, repairing dampness, painting classrooms, renovating the dining hall, improving access, and replacing carpentry, as well as expanding the sensory corridor of the TEA classroom. At Jacinto Benavente, the outdoor spaces will be renewed with new shaded areas, a volleyball court, and an athletics track, along with accessibility and recreational improvements.

At San Gregorio, the renovation of the football pitch will be completed, and work will be done on the sports hall to repair dampness, including painting, renewing goals, basketball hoops, and doors, and conditioning the perimeter. At La Navata, the former caretaker's house will be converted into a “Future Classroom”, a multipurpose learning space that residents can use for reading, studying, and other activities outside school hours.

The Councillor for Education, Beatriz Gutiérrez, has stated that “every summer we take advantage of the holidays to prepare our schools and address the needs communicated to us by the management teams. This year, our students return to find improvements already made, and we also have new projects ready that will allow us to continue advancing in the modernisation of the centres.”
