The mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, has visited the Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital to donate blood, joining the emergency alert from the Community of Madrid due to the lack of reserves in several blood groups.
The mayor of Móstoles, Manuel Bautista, has donated blood at the Rey Juan Carlos University Hospital after the Transfusion Centre of the Community of Madrid activated the emergency level across the region. The lack of reserves affects groups 0+, 0-, A-, AB- and B-, according to the official notice.
Group 0+ is the one requiring urgent donations, while extra donations are requested for groups 0-, A-, AB- and B- within two or three days. In contrast, groups AB+, A+ and B+ are in regular condition, although people are encouraged to maintain regular donations.
The Móstoles City Council has joined the regional call and appeals to the solidarity of the residents. Blood is constantly used in hospitals for surgeries, emergencies and treatments, so regular donations are key to ensuring healthcare provision.
To donate, the main requirements are to be at least 18 years old and weigh more than 50 kilos. The maximum age is 60 years for first-time donors, and 70 if they have donated in the last three years, provided they are in good health and have medical authorization in the latter case.
It is not necessary to attend on an empty stomach or to have consumed alcohol. The process includes a health questionnaire and a brief medical examination to check pulse, blood pressure, hemoglobin and weight. The extraction takes about 10 minutes and the entire process, around 20.
Donations can be made every two months, with a maximum of three or four times a year. The Rey Juan Carlos hospital, located in Móstoles, is one of the designated points for these donations, and it is hoped that the community response will help recover optimal levels in the coming days.
