The Colmenar Viejo Town Hall launches a programme for the prescription of physical exercise from health centres, with two active points and two free initiation workshops between October 2026 and June 2027.
The health centres in Colmenar Viejo will refer sedentary adult and elderly patients to the Municipal Sports Service as part of the new physical exercise prescription programme approved by the Sports Department. The initiative, which will run from October 2026 to June 2027, aims to incorporate physical activity as part of health care and is part of the physical activity and health programmes of the Community of Madrid.
The Sports Councillor, Fabiola Cebrián Pérez, explained how it works: “Health centre professionals will assess each patient and, when necessary, refer them to the Municipal Sports Service, where they will find adapted and safe activities to start gradually.”
The programme includes two active physical activity points at the Juan Antonio Samaranch Municipal Sports City and the Lorenzo Rico Municipal Sports Complex, with regular sessions throughout the nine months of implementation. These sessions combine gentle strength exercises, mobility, flexibility, and aerobic activity, as well as healthy routes and the use of biosaludable parks.
Two initiation workshops for physical activity have also been scheduled in eight-week cycles with two weekly sessions, designed for participants to try different modalities and gain confidence. The programme is completed with guided healthy routes, Nordic walking, and occasional training actions on postural education.
The process for each user begins with an initial assessment, continues with personalised recommendations and periodic reviews, and ends with guidance on maintaining habits. The councillor emphasised that “physical exercise is a fundamental tool for improving health and preventing chronic diseases.”
All activities are free, and the number of sessions per participant can be adjusted according to demand. The programme's evaluation will measure its impact on healthy habits and user satisfaction.
