On Thursday, the mayor of Chapinería, Lucía Moya, met with the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the mayors of the other 16 municipalities in Sierra Oeste affected by the recent fires. The meeting, held just a week after the emergency, served to follow up on the recovery plan and for the municipalities to express their needs.
According to the data provided by the Community of Madrid during the meeting, 88% of the 43 measures outlined in the recovery plan are already in progress. A figure that, according to the regional government, demonstrates the speed of the institutional response, although Chapinería reminds that the emergency has not ended for everyone.
In fact, 78 people and 23 pets still cannot return to their homes and continue to need accommodation and sustenance, according to the data presented at the meeting. They are mostly families from the municipalities most affected by the fire, who see how the return to normalcy is being prolonged.
Chapinería, awaiting the evolution of the measures
Moya attended the meeting with a clear objective: to convey and defend the needs of the residents of Chapinería throughout the recovery process and to learn firsthand about the planned actions that directly affect the municipality. The City Council emphasizes the importance of maintaining ongoing communication with the involved administrations.
The meeting also served to share the situation of the 17 affected municipalities and to coordinate the work being carried out by the various administrations. For Chapinería, coordination is key in this new phase, where it is necessary to recover damaged spaces and move towards normalcy.
The Chapinería City Council wanted to send a message of solidarity to all affected individuals and reiterates its commitment to continue working to ensure that recovery progresses as quickly as possible. The mayor will continue to participate in the coordination meetings that are convened to monitor the evolution of the measures and defend the municipality's interests.
