From August 12 to 16, Cercedilla hosts the XVIII Mountain Week, featuring stargazing, GREIM talks, and adventure activities for all ages.
Cercedilla will celebrate the XVIII Mountain Week from August 12 to 16, an event that turns the municipality into the epicentre of nature and adventure in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The programme includes everything from astronomical observation to mountain rescue conferences, along with children's activities.
The starting point will be on August 12 at 18:30 at the Municipal Football Field, where an eclipse can be witnessed with certified glasses until stocks last. A unique opportunity to gaze at the sky in a privileged setting.
On Wednesday, August 13, the Paquito Fernández Ochoa Ski Museum will host a conference at 20:00 by the GREIM, the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group of the Civil Guard, explaining their daily work in mountainous environments. At 22:00 and 23:00, the Hermitage of San Antonio will be the venue for a stargazing observatory, with prior registration required.
On August 14, also at the museum, the activity 'Talking with Mambrú: Iditarod – Alaska' will take place, dedicated to one of the toughest adventure races in the world, covering over 1,600 kilometres by sled. On August 15 and 16, Plaza Nueva will host a climbing wall, zip line, and water inflatables from 18:00 to 22:00, designed for family enjoyment.
To conclude, on August 15 at 20:00, mountaineer Rafa Gómez will give a talk and presentation about his experience in Torres del Paine, in Chilean Patagonia, at the same museum. With this proposal, the municipality reinforces its role as a gateway to the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.
The Mountain Week is a well-established event that combines education, sport, and leisure, aiming to bring the natural environment closer to residents and visitors. All activities are free to access, except for the stargazing observatory, which requires prior reservation through the link provided by the Town Hall.
