ADIF will allocate over 30 million euros to the comprehensive renovation of the Cercanías stop in the Barrio de la Estación in Coslada, which is also used by residents of San Fernando de Henares. The works could begin in spring after the project is approved by the Council of Ministers.
The president of ADIF, Luis Pedro Marco, has informed the mayor of Coslada, Ángel Viveros, and the mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Javier Corpa, that the railway body is ready with the comprehensive renovation project for the Cercanías stop in the Barrio de la Estación. The intervention will involve an investment of over 30 million euros and will address the station's accessibility issues, as well as completely remodel the current building.
The meeting, requested by both mayors, focused on the situation of this RENFE stop, which is heavily used by residents of Coslada and also San Fernando de Henares. Viveros recalled that the demand has been longstanding and that both municipalities have requested it “regardless of the political party in power at the central government.”
It is a necessary intervention that will improve the mobility of our residents, and today we can also talk about concrete steps and the commitment to continue advancing to make it a reality as soon as possible,” said Corpa.
The two mayors have conveyed to ADIF the need to maintain ongoing dialogue and a common action framework. The next meeting will be between technicians from both municipalities and the railway manager.
According to ADIF, from now on, administrative phases will be completed, including the approval of the project in the Council of Ministers. The procedures could be concluded by December, so that the works would start in spring.
Viveros has confirmed to Luis Pedro Marco that he supports the demonstration called for this Saturday in Coslada by residents and users to demand improvements in the station's accessibility. “As mayor and as a resident of Coslada, I fully support the demonstration,” he stated.
This Friday, a meeting is scheduled with representatives of the Asociación Vecinal La Unión del Barrio de la Estación to inform them firsthand about the project.
