The Alcalá de Henares City Council will implement a plan with 160 local police per day, 1,000 national agents, drones, and CCTV for the festivities.
Alcalá de Henares presented this morning the special security plan that will safeguard its 2026 Fairs and Festivals, which begin in August. The mayor, Judith Piquet, chaired an Extraordinary Local Security Board where the details of an operation combining uniformed police presence, plainclothes officers, drones, and CCTV cameras were defined.
The plan, coordinated from the Operational Coordination Centre (CECOR), will involve the participation of Local Police, National Police, Civil Protection, Civil Guard, and other municipal services. The Councillor for Citizen Security, Orlena de Miguel, highlighted that the aim is “for the 2026 Fairs to take place in a safe, orderly environment compatible with civic coexistence.”
During the ten days of festivities, the Local Police will deploy 160 officers daily, which amounts to over 1,200 service days in total. Additionally, more than 1,000 agents from the National Police, including UPR units, will patrol the city with a dynamic deployment. As a new feature, collaboration with other local police from the Community of Madrid will be included, supported by Law 1/2018 on Coordination of Local Police.
Civil Protection will provide 35 volunteers for medical assistance, logistical support, and evacuations, while the Civil Guard will conduct breathalyser checks at the city’s access points in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The operation will focus on four key areas: the Fairgrounds of the Isla del Colegio, Plaza de Cervantes, Huerta del Obispo, and Parque Sementales, with differentiated deployments according to expected attendance.
De Miguel also announced that the number of CCTV cameras will be increased, canine units will be added, and teams specialized in preventing violent youth gangs will be deployed. Security filters will be installed in Plaza de Cervantes and the Fairgrounds, and large gatherings will be expressly prohibited.
The plan also includes specific measures at the Cercanías stations to facilitate the mobility of the thousands of attendees. “This year we continue to strengthen prevention and coordination to improve our response capacity,” stated the councillor, who called for citizen collaboration.
The municipal areas of Health, Works, Festivals, and Environment will complement the plan with improvements in lighting, fencing, signage, and sanitary conditions of the festive spaces.
