The Alcalá de Henares City Council has presented the rehabilitation and environmental improvement project for Huerta de Sementales park, an initiative that is part of the 'Parques con vida' programme and will involve an investment of 850,000 euros.
The Councillor for the Environment, Vicente Pérez, explained that the aim is to "recover this emblematic green space and turn it into a benchmark for urban sustainability and the naturalisation of urban environments." The works are scheduled to last for five months.
The project includes the new definition of paths and improvement of the surface, the replacement of paved areas with lawns, the relocation of the dog area, the rehabilitation of the fencing, the renewal of furniture and lighting, as well as the implementation of sustainable irrigation and the increase of biodiversity.
Specifically, the project includes 3,300 square metres more of lawns, the planting of 70 trees of six different species, and 450 shrubs of ten different species. Local residents will see how the park gains more green areas and improves its facilities.
This intervention is part of the comprehensive plan 'Alcalá improves its neighbourhoods', which promotes the 'Parques con vida' project. In total, this initiative involves more than 10 million euros of investment and affects 14 green spaces throughout the city, making it the most ambitious project for the modernisation of green areas in the last 25 years.
The works at Huerta de Sementales will begin shortly and will be carried out over five months, with the aim of having the park looking renewed before the end of the year.
