The Community of Madrid and Voltio are launching a temporary car-sharing service in Chapinería with 90% subsidised rates to facilitate mobility after the fires.
The Chapinería Town Hall has announced the launch of a temporary car-sharing service to assist residents' travel during the reconstruction phase following the Sierra Oeste fires. The initiative, driven by the Community of Madrid in collaboration with the company Voltio, has a regional investment of 100,000 euros and is designed to address, among other needs, those who have lost their vehicle due to the fire.
The service will provide a fleet of up to 35 vehicles, which will be rolled out progressively in the municipalities included in the scheme, adapting availability to the demand of each locality. The initial operating period will be three months, coinciding with the return and recovery phase after the emergency, although it may be adjusted depending on the situation's evolution.
The measure aims to facilitate necessary travel to health centres, workplaces, pharmacies, shops, and other essential services. It will also address the needs of agricultural and livestock operations and assist in the care of elderly and dependent individuals.
Reservations must be made through the Voltio mobile app, with two options available: 4 hours for 4 euros or 8 hours for 8 euros. These rates represent a 90% discount compared to standard rates. Once the contracted period is over, the vehicle must be returned to the same pick-up point to ensure its availability in each municipality.
The Chapinería Town Hall considers it a priority for residents to be aware of and access the measures that various administrations are implementing to facilitate recovery. Therefore, the council will continue to monitor available resources and communicate any information that may be useful for restoring mobility and progressing towards normality.
