The Colmenarejo Town Hall calls for responsibility due to the coincidence of the solar eclipse on August 12 with a high risk of fires and access restrictions to natural parks.
The Colmenarejo Town Hall has issued a call for responsibility ahead of the exceptional day expected this Wednesday, August 12, when the solar eclipse coincides with a situation of high risk of forest fires and an extraordinary forecast of movements towards natural areas.
The Government Delegation in Madrid has requested extraordinary measures to limit access to the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and the Regional Park of the Upper Manzanares Basin, both due to the risk of fires and the large concentrations of people expected. Estimates suggest up to 500,000 movements related to the eclipse.
To address this situation, a deployment of over 1,700 National Police and Civil Guard agents has been prepared, along with local police, Civil Protection, and emergency services. The town hall emphasizes that, as of today, these restrictions have been requested and it should not be assumed that all access points will be closed.
They recommend checking official information before travelling and respecting at all times the controls, access restrictions, or parking limitations that may be established by the authorities. Colmenarejo urges avoiding unnecessary travel and overcrowding in natural spaces, not parking on roads or access points that may be needed by emergency services, not making fires or engaging in activities that could produce a spark, and not leaving waste behind.
The town hall reminds that, in case of any fire or emergency, one should immediately call 112. They also warn that during the eclipse, one should not look directly at the Sun without proper protection.
Only use eclipse glasses that comply with the ISO 12312-2:2015 standard and remember that regular sunglasses are not suitable for viewing it.
The town hall requests that situations be avoided that could hinder the access of firefighters, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, and other emergency services, and that only official sources be followed for any last-minute alerts.
