The Galapagar Town Hall has launched a prevention and awareness campaign against drug-facilitated sexual assault and sexist behaviour in connection with the Patron Saint Festivities. The initiative includes the distribution of 4,000 free cup covers, a measure to prevent drinks from being tampered with, and burundanga detection kits while supplies last.
The kit is placed in the drink and, if it comes into contact with any of the target substances, it causes changes in taste, colour, or texture. The substance is trapped in the gel, which can be preserved as potential evidence.
Those who wish to check their drink should go to the Punto Blanco, a tent set up next to the bus stop in front of the Plaza del Presidente Adolfo Suárez. It will be operational on 11 and 12 September, from 22:00 to 1:00 hours, and will provide information and assistance regarding sexist situations or needs during the celebrations.
The campaign reminds that in the event of symptoms such as sudden dizziness, leg failure, or memory lapses, help should be sought immediately. The material recommends calling 112 and providing the location, even if it is not certain what is happening.
The initiative is funded by credits from the Ministry of Equality, through the Secretary of State for Equality and for the eradication of violence against women, as part of the State Pact against Gender Violence.
