The Los Molinos Town Hall has released a guide to clarify the rights and limits of consumers when paying in shops. Cash is mandatory up to €1,000 per transaction and cards cannot incur surcharges.

The Los Molinos Town Hall has issued an informative guide to clarify the rights and obligations of consumers when paying in shops and contracting services. The document outlines the legal limits of each payment method and the conditions that establishments must meet.

Cash payments are mandatory, with a maximum limit of €1,000 per transaction and a cap of 50 coins per payment. Banknotes of €100, €200, and €500 are valid as long as they are proportionate to the price to be paid.

In public transport, there are exceptions: taxis are only required to provide change for up to €20, while on buses only the ticket of the immediately higher value than the fare is accepted.

For bank cards, the regulations prohibit applying additional fees or costs for payments made with them. The shop can set a minimum amount to authorise the transaction, but it must announce this visibly in advance. Additionally, it is always required to provide a paper copy of the transaction.

Digital methods such as Bizum or PayPal are optional for the shop: they are not obliged to offer them and, if they do accept them, they cannot charge extra fees. The guide recommends using enhanced authentication systems to protect these transactions.

In case of any irregularities or non-compliance, residents can go to the Consumer Information Office, which is open on Thursdays from 10:00 to 13:00 hours.
