The Patron Saint Festivities of Majadahonda in honour of the Most Holy Christ of Remedies extend the 'Silent Hour' to four and a half hours on September 17, with an adapted programme and calm kits.
The Patron Saint Festivities of Majadahonda in honour of the Most Holy Christ of Remedies, which will take place from September 11 to 20, will this year feature a 'Silent Hour' that doubles its duration. On Thursday, September 17, from 17:00 to 21:30, loud noises and bright lights will be avoided in the attractions at the Fairgrounds so that individuals with sensory hypersensitivity or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can enjoy without discomfort.
The Department of Women, Social Inclusion and Disability Care has developed, together with the VenTEA Association, an adapted version of the festival programme. It includes clear language, simple explanations of each event, and sheets with ARASAAC pictograms about the spaces where activities will take place, designed so that individuals with ASD know in advance what will happen, where, and how.
A guide to the fireworks display has also been prepared, detailing what types of fireworks will be launched, in what order, and what level of noise they will generate, with recommendations for those who have low noise tolerance. Additionally, in collaboration with VenTEA, 'calm kits' have been created, which include noise-cancelling headphones and stress-relief manual games. These can be borrowed at the SERMAJ-Civil Protection booths set up at the main events.
Local Police officers and SERMAJ-Civil Protection staff will have an informative guide to know how to act in case of anxiety crises for individuals with sensory hypersensitivity, disabilities, or autism.
On the same Thursday, September 17, the III Municipal Sports Day for individuals with intellectual disabilities will be held at the La Granadilla Sports Centre starting at 10:30. Users from municipal disability care centres will participate in adapted sports activities, and the day will conclude with music and dancing.
