The report from the Ministry of the Interior reflects a decrease of 8.1% in conventional crime in Rivas-Vaciamadrid during the first half of 2026. Home burglaries have fallen by 50%, and the City Council has granted €152,000 in aid to businesses for security systems.
Conventional crime in Rivas-Vaciamadrid decreased by 8.1% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the Crime Report for municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants published by the Ministry of the Interior.
The most significant drop is in home and establishment burglaries, which have fallen by 47.5%. When analysing only the category of home burglaries, the reduction reaches 50%. These figures come after a spike in this type of crime was recorded in the first half of 2025.
The City Council of Rivas attributes the decrease to several measures implemented since last autumn. Among them is the addition of 21 new officers to the Local Police and a judicial accompaniment service for victims of burglary.
This service allows the City Council to participate in robbery proceedings and request precautionary measures from the judiciary to prevent reoffending, such as restraining orders or provisional imprisonment. So far in 2026, the City Council has participated in 31 judicial proceedings, of which 22 have resulted in preventive detention as a precautionary measure.
Another active line is the aid for commerce and hospitality to install security equipment: alarms, video surveillance, access control, or steel bollards against ram-raiding in shop windows. The call for applications finances up to 90% of these systems, and the application deadline ends on 31 October 2026. So far, €152,000 has been granted to 18 establishments.
The City Council also mentions the Local Police patrols and the 'Safe Businesses' campaign as factors that have contributed to the decline. The mayor, Aída Castillejo, has commented on the data in a press conference this Friday.
The positive data reflected in the crime report for the first half of the year does not make us lower our guard, but rather encourages us to continue improving in the coming months," declared Castillejo.
In Rivas, we understand public safety as a public service, which enhances coexistence and strengthens our productive fabric," added the mayor.
Other crimes have also decreased in the first half: thefts by 11.7%, robberies with violence and intimidation by 2%, drug trafficking by 9.1%, and cyber fraud by 1.8%. In contrast, other cybercrimes have increased by 23.9%.
Businesses and hospitality operators in Rivas interested in security aid have until 31 October to submit their applications and apply for a grant that covers almost the entire cost of the equipment.
