The Town Council of San Lorenzo de El Escorial delivered the Honours and Distinctions of the Royal Site on Thursday at the Royal Coliseum Carlos III, with the Virgin of Grace as Honorary Mayor for Life and recognitions to ten individuals and groups.
This morning, the Town Council of San Lorenzo de El Escorial celebrated the delivery of the Honours and Distinctions of the Royal Site, a traditional event that coincides with the patron's feast day and took place at the Royal Coliseum Carlos III. The recognitions were approved in the Extraordinary Plenary held on July 13.
Among the awardees is Our Lady the Virgin of Grace, who has received the title of Honorary Mayor for Life, a symbolic distinction that reinforces the historical bond of the patroness with the municipality. The Medal for Artistic Merit was also awarded to musician David Huerta Pontón.
The Cultural Association Floridablanca received the Bronze Medal, while the Brotherhood of San Antonio Abad, the Newspaper Aquí en la Sierra, and the Juan de Herrera Institute received the Plaque of Recognition. The Ice Cream Shop Los Valencianos, the Romería Groups, and the Volunteers of the Parade were distinguished with an Honourable Mention.
The event also served to announce that the main hall of the sports centre will be named Marta Balbuena, in recognition of her career linked to local sports. This naming will take effect in the coming months.
Residents will be able to see the distinctions displayed at the Town Hall and consult the plenary agreement at the municipal headquarters. The delivery, which is repeated every year, aims to highlight the work of individuals and groups that contribute to the cultural, social, and sporting life of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
