The San Martín de la Vega Town Hall has delivered 3,149 aerated bins for organic waste since May. In its first month, the brown bin has collected 47.14 tonnes.
The San Martín de la Vega Town Hall has already distributed 3,149 aerated bins for the separation of organic waste, as part of the campaign 'Don't Let it Slip! Join the Brown'. The initiative, launched in May, aims to prepare residents for the new organic waste container.
In its first month of operation, this container has collected 47.14 tonnes of organic waste. The council estimates that, by not sending it to landfill, 614.42 tonnes of greenhouse gases have been avoided.
The campaign is funded by European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU). It has been promoted through media, social networks, and leaflets delivered to homes.
The Councillor for Municipal Services, Sergio Neira, explained that the goal is to "achieve notoriety, frequency, visibility, and the remembrance of a message that encourages doing the right thing, separating organic waste." Neira added that they focus "on the waste we generate in the kitchen because this is actually the most important part of domestic organic waste."
In addition to the domestic bins, workshops have been organized in schools, informative guides have been distributed, a training meeting has been held, and 240-litre containers have been given to large generators such as restaurants, care homes, supermarkets, and school canteens.
Residents who do not yet have their bin can collect it from the Town Hall from Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 14:30, until stocks last.
