The City Council of San Martín de la Vega has acquired a DJI Mavic 4 Pro drone for €2,689 for the Local Police. The equipment incorporates artificial intelligence to automatically detect people and vehicles.

The Local Police of San Martín de la Vega now has a state-of-the-art drone. The City Council has purchased a DJI Mavic 4 Pro for €2,689, an investment co-financed between the council and the Community of Madrid through the ESICAM179 programme.

The equipment incorporates artificial intelligence to automatically detect people or vehicles and perform intelligent tracking of objects, even predicting movements in case of loss of contact. The Hasselblad camera with a 4/3 CMOS sensor of 100 megapixels records HDR video in 6K at 60 fps and includes a dual telecamera with sensors of 1/1.3 and 1/1.5 inches and 360-degree rotation. Obstacle detection is omnidirectional, even in nighttime scenes, and the autonomy reaches 51 minutes of flight.

The Councillor for Citizen Security, Sergio Neira, has detailed the planned applications:

Surveillance and control of large gatherings, traffic monitoring and discipline, search and rescue operations for people or in any other type of emergency, as the high definition and optics will allow the operation to work with greater information of the search area.

The councillor also noted that the drone “is equipped with three batteries and a parallel charging station, to enable greater autonomy” and that “training will be provided to assess police officers as drone pilots for non-civilian activities,” in accordance with Royal Decree 517/2024.

The purchase adds to other recent investments in the area: €25,587.87 in new bulletproof vests, €75,976.48 to expand the security camera network, and €18,097 planned for two electric motorcycles. Additionally, the municipality has incorporated twelve new local police officers.
