The Town Hall of Tres Cantos thanks the residents and visitors who responsibly followed the solar eclipse yesterday. The day passed without incidents and with the attendance of about 5,000 people.
The solar eclipse that darkened the sky of Tres Cantos yesterday was experienced in an orderly manner and without surprises. The Town Hall wanted to publicly thank the behaviour of the residents and visitors who followed the phenomenon from various points in the municipality, especially in the areas of Valdeloshielos and Soto de Viñuelas, where the largest crowds gathered.
About 5,000 people travelled to these natural surroundings to witness the total phase of the eclipse, which lasted nearly 40 seconds. In anticipation of a large turnout and high temperatures, the City Council activated a special security and emergency operation that included Local Police, Civil Protection, a municipal ambulance, and other emergency services.
As a preventive measure, all municipal activities organised for the public observation of the eclipse were cancelled. Additionally, vehicle access to the Valdeloshielos estate and the livestock path of Soto de Viñuelas was restricted, and police checkpoints were established to regulate access and protect the natural environment.
Traffic was also affected: the service road of the M-607 and the Centro exit were closed to vehicles to facilitate the safe passage of people who walked to the observation areas. The day unfolded normally and without notable incidents.
The City Council has especially thanked the work of the security and emergency professionals who participated in the operation, as well as the cooperation of citizens. “An exceptional day that was experienced with order and civility,” municipal sources highlight.
The observation of the eclipse is part of the extensive programming that Tres Cantos dedicates throughout the year to the aerospace sector and scientific dissemination. The municipality, established as a national reference aerospace hub, concentrates the largest number of companies in the sector and organises initiatives such as Space Week, the Star Party, planetariums, astrophotography exhibitions, and science, technology, and robotics activities for all ages.
