The San Martín de la Vega City Council increases grants to sports entities by 42.9%, raising them from 700 to 1,000 euros per club. The 2026 budget allocates 18,000 euros for this purpose.
The San Martín de la Vega City Council has decided to raise direct aid to the municipality's sports clubs to 1,000 euros, up from 700 euros in previous agreements. This increase represents a 42.9% rise per entity and is included in the 2026 Municipal Budget, which allocates a total of 18,000 euros for these grants.
The first phase of the plan begins with the signing of six agreements with the entities that have already submitted all the required documentation. These are the Bigcarp Elemental Sports Club, the Canicross Sports Club, the San Martín Elemental Judo Club, San Martín de la Vega C.F., Unión Deportiva San Martín, and the San Martín Obispo Hunters Club.
These six clubs will initially receive a total of 6,000 euros, at a rate of 1,000 euros each. The municipal allocation for the remaining sports entities remains at the 18,000 euros planned for this year, allowing the City Council to sign more agreements in the coming months.
The Councillor for Sports, Álvaro Pleguezuelo, explained that the aim is to assist with the ordinary expenses of the clubs, such as materials, equipment, licenses, registrations, refereeing, competitions, or travel. In his words:
Our clubs carry out work throughout the year that goes far beyond competition itself. Behind each entity are coaches, boards, families, and many hours of work so that hundreds of residents can practice sports, which is why we at the City Council want to continue collaborating and progressively increasing our support.
The Mayor, Rafael Martínez, added that municipal support is not limited to financial aid. He reminded that the City Council provides the municipal sports facilities free of charge to the clubs, also covering maintenance and operational costs. In his opinion, this is a contribution that “is often unseen,” but is essential for the local sports fabric.
In the coming weeks, the signing of collaboration agreements for the 2026/2027 season is expected, which will regulate the free use of municipal sports facilities under the conditions set for each modality and entity. Clubs that have not yet submitted their documentation will be able to do so to join this new aid framework.
