The General Directorate of Consumption disseminates an informative note about the temporary €3 tariff that the EU applies from July 1, 2026, to products under €150 sent from outside the Union. The charge is calculated per line of the customs declaration and may be passed on to the buyer.
Residents of Villavieja del Lozoya who purchase products online from platforms or sellers based outside the European Union should be aware of the new temporary tariff of €3 that applies to shipments valued under €150. The measure came into effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain in place until July 1, 2028, according to the informative note from the General Directorate of Consumption of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption, and the 2030 Agenda, communicated within the framework of the Sectoral Consumption Commission.
The criterion determining the application of the tariff is the location from which the goods are dispatched, not the nationality of the sales platform, the website domain, or the currency used for payment. Therefore, even purchases made before July 1, 2026 may be subject to the charge if the order arrives in Spain after that date.
The amount is calculated at €3 per line of the customs declaration, which typically corresponds to each type or category of imported product. A single order may incur more than one charge when it includes items of different natures.
The obligation to pay lies with the person presenting the customs declaration to the authorities. This cost may be passed on to the consumer in two ways: integrated into the final purchase price or demanded at the time of delivery by the company managing the import.
The application of this tariff does not alter consumers' rights regarding withdrawal and return of products, although the handling of the tariff refund will depend on who actually made the payment.
From July 1, 2028, this temporary right will cease to apply, and ordinary customs rights corresponding to the type of product will come into play.
The note includes practical recommendations for buyers: check if the advertised price includes all costs associated with the import, review delivery and return conditions, and keep the purchase documentation.
