The Town Hall of Tres Cantos and the Autonomous University of Madrid launch the first microcredentials, starting with Aerospace Law. The training, lasting 8 or 16 hours, will begin in the last quarter of the year.
The Town Hall of Tres Cantos and the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) will implement a programme of university microcredentials, a format of brief and specialised training that will for the first time be available in the municipality. The initiative, driven by the Departments of Economic Development and Employment and Education, will kick off with a specific course on Aerospace Law to be taught during the last quarter of this year.
The first microcredential is aimed at professionals in the aerospace sector, a field with a strong presence in Tres Cantos, and seeks to ensure that students understand the national, European, and international legal framework governing space activities. The programme, consisting of 8 or 16 hours of face-to-face classes (equivalent to 1 or 2 ECTS credits), is designed to be compatible with work commitments.
Ana Isabel Pérez, Councillor for Economic Development and Employment, emphasises that this training will enable professionals to “anticipate potential legal risks, make informed decisions, and provide legal value throughout all phases of a space mission's lifecycle.” The councillor highlights that the sector is undergoing a transformation marked by initiatives such as the upcoming Space Activities Law or the proposed European regulations on this matter.
The Town Hall is a founding member of the Autonomous University of Madrid Foundation (FUAM), a collaboration that is now strengthened with this educational offering. “It is a clear example of how collaboration between the university and the business fabric allows for highly specialised training tailored to the real needs of a strategic sector for Tres Cantos,” Pérez adds.
Tres Cantos hosts a significant number of leading companies in the aerospace sector with internationally recognised projects, making this training beneficial for engineers, technicians, project managers, legal departments, compliance areas, or business development. Following this initial launch, the Town Hall plans to promote new microcredentials linked to other strategic sectors in the municipality.
