The Department of Environment and Street Cleaning of Alcalá de Henares is organising a new edition of its free environmental routes, with guided walks through parks and natural spaces. The first outings will be on the 19th and 20th of September.
The Town Hall of Alcalá de Henares, through the Department of Environment and Street Cleaning, has scheduled a new season of its Environmental Routes, a series of guided and free itineraries to discover the natural spaces and green areas of the city.
The walks, led by an environmental educator, will traverse urban parks and locations such as the Henares River, the Cerros, the livestock routes, and various green areas of the municipality. During the tours, the vegetation, biodiversity, and environmental values of each place will be shared.
The programme will kick off on 19th September with a route through the Ecofluvial Corridor of the Henares. The following day, 20th September, the Park Route will take place, and on 27th September, the route Henares through the mills.
In the following months, itineraries will be added through the parks of Espartales, Isla del Colegio, Camarmilla, O’Donnell, and the Arboretum Dehesa del Batán, in addition to the routes of Resting Places, Ecce Homo, Arab Castle, and Stork Route.
The routes have different levels of difficulty and duration: from walks of an hour and a half through urban parks to longer routes through natural spaces. All are free, require prior reservation, and have a maximum of 25 participants. Registrations are made through the municipal website.
With this initiative, the Town Hall invites residents to discover the natural heritage of Alcalá de Henares alongside professionals in environmental education.
