The association APHISA, celebrating 50 years, inaugurates the Fairs and Festivals of Alcalá de Henares this Saturday with a speech dedicated to inclusion. Mayor Judith Piquet encourages everyone to enjoy nine days of celebration with respect.
The association APHISA, dedicated to people with intellectual disabilities, has been responsible for kicking off the Fairs and Festivals of Alcalá de Henares 2026. The speech, held this Saturday 22nd August, also served to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the entity, a milestone that the mayor, Judith Piquet, wanted to highlight from the balcony of the Town Hall.
During her speech, the mayor congratulated the members of the association for a speech she described as “so beautiful and fun.” Piquet praised the work of APHISA over five decades: “They are here today on this balcony so we can thank them for their good service to our city and to the people of Alcalá, and to encourage them to continue on this path for many more years.”
The mayor emphasised that the members of the entity “are an example for everyone” and represent “the best of Alcalá de Henares: a human, generous, hopeful, open, and joyful city.” This recognition comes in a year particularly significant for the association, founded in 1976, which has supported hundreds of families in the city.
The official event began with the traditional floral offering to Christ of the Rocks, followed by the presentation of the ladies of the Fairs and the placement of the banner of the groups on the town hall balcony. Next, the speech took place, which served as a prelude to one of the surprises prepared for the occasion: an intervention by the Firefighters from the Santa María tower.
The day concluded with traditional cheers for the Groups, for the Fairs of Alcalá, and for the city as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the speech, the programme continued with concerts by Loquillo in the Huerta del Obispo and Efecto Pasillo in the Plaza de Cervantes.
Piquet took the opportunity to invite residents and visitors to fully experience the festivities, which will last for nine days. “That is what we are going to do again in the next nine days: show everyone that Alcalá is the city of fun and celebration,” she stated. And she delivered a clear message: to enjoy “to the fullest, with common sense and respect, but with all the strength of the heart.”
The Fairs and Festivals of Alcalá de Henares offer a wide range of activities for all audiences until 30th August, with special attention to inclusion this year marked by APHISA's anniversary.
