The Aranjuez City Council has already begun the adaptation of the roundabout at UNESCO Square, with a timeframe of four months. The project includes the restoration of the fountain, which is currently out of use.
The Aranjuez City Council has started the works to adapt the roundabout at UNESCO Square, which will complete the replanting of this public space. The expected execution period is four months, and the work has already begun with the cleaning of the area.
The project, presented by the mayor, Miguel Gómez Herrero, and the delegate for Green and Blue Infrastructure, José González Granados, recovers the design model chosen in 2013. It aligns with the criteria of the Master Plan for the Protection, Use, and Management of Green Areas, Parks, Gardens, and Trees in Aranjuez.
The intervention creates a central area for gathering and raises concrete walkways to improve pedestrian connectivity between the square and the surrounding streets. According to the City Council, these pathways will organise traffic and provide continuity to the green space.
Another aspect of the project is the restoration of the fountain, which has been vandalised and is not functioning. The aim is to return it to the square as part of the public space.
For the residents, the change will be noticeable in the access to the square from the surrounding streets, which will be connected by the new pedestrian walkways at the end of the four months of works.
