The Colmenar Viejo City Council has scheduled the XXIV Senior Days from September 25 to October 1, featuring workshops, talks, and a recognition gala. Registrations are now open at the Senior Department.
The Colmenar Viejo City Council, through the Senior Department, has organised the Senior Week, which will take place from September 25 to October 1 with a programme that includes physical, cultural, and prevention activities. The proposals aim to promote participation and active ageing among the municipality's older residents.
The Councillor for Seniors, Enrique Navarro Hermosilla, stated that "Senior Week is a celebration, but our commitment to them remains throughout the year." Navarro added that among the municipal priorities are "combating unwanted loneliness, promoting active ageing, and reinforcing the prevention of dependency."
The programme for the XXIV Senior Days includes craft workshops, dance classes, English, yoga, pilates, and tai chi, as well as sessions to learn how to use mobile phones and talks to prevent cybercrime. As a new feature, an excursion to the Vistas Reales estate in Colmenar Viejo has been organised, where participants will be able to observe birds of prey and horses, and attend demonstrations.
The activities will take place at the ‘Retama’ Pensioners’ Home (Retama Street, 12), the ‘Paraguay’ Senior Centre (Paraguay Street, s/n), and at The Youth House (Hoyo de Manzanares Road, 16).
The week will culminate on Thursday, October 1 with the IV ‘Essential Seniors’ Gala, which will be held at the ‘Villa de Colmenar Viejo’ Auditorium starting at 7:00 PM. During the event, residents will be recognised for their charitable and altruistic work, and a token of appreciation will be presented.
After the awards ceremony, ‘Flavours of Colmenar’ will be presented, an initiative by the Youth Department that has brought together young people and seniors to share recipes and culinary experiences, documented in a book that attendees will find in their seats. Following this, there will be a lyrical concert of opera and zarzuela performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the Autonomous University of Madrid (OCUAM), the Camerata Antonio Soler, and the Coral Iter, under the direction of José María Álvarez, featuring soloists Jaime Carrasco, Solange Aroca, and María Encarnación Hernández Crespo. The day will conclude with a Spanish wine.
Tickets for the gala are free and will be available from September 22 to 29 at The Youth House (Hoyo de Manzanares Road, 16).
