Dozens of residents have gathered in the Plaza Mayor to show their support for the autonomous city.
Dozens of residents from Colmenar de Oreja concentrated this midday in the Plaza Mayor to express their support for Ceuta and its inhabitants. The call, spread by the Town Hall through its social media, brought together citizens of all ages carrying Spanish flags and banners with messages of solidarity.
The event, which proceeded without incidents, included the participation of members of the municipal corporation. The mayor, Pablo Velasco, read a manifesto in which he called for “unity and respect” towards the autonomous city and defended the “Spanish identity of Ceuta.”
Today we raise our voice for Ceuta from Colmenar de Oreja. We want to show our support and solidarity with all Ceutíes,” the mayor stated.
The gathering responds to the situation experienced at the Tarajal border in recent days, following the massive influx of migrants. Attendees observed a minute of silence for the injured agents and chanted slogans in favour of Spanish sovereignty.
This is one of several mobilisations that have been called in different parts of the Community of Madrid to show support for Ceuta. The Town Hall has thanked the citizen participation and encouraged maintaining “coexistence and respect” in the municipality.
