The municipality commemorated the first anniversary of its declaration as an International Peace Culture Zone with a citizen meeting. A score of local associations and artists participated.
Manzanares el Real has celebrated the first anniversary of its declaration as a Zone of International Peace Culture with a day of citizen engagement that brought together associations, groups, entities, and artists from the municipality. The event, which took place yesterday, is part of the commemoration of the International Day of Peace, celebrated every 21st of September.
The Manzanares el Real Town Hall has publicly thanked all participants for their involvement. In total, around twenty entities took part, including La Fábrica de Sueños, AFA del CEIP Peña Sacra, Colegio Los Abetos, the Municipal Theatre Workshop with Javier Nieto, the Asociación Peña Sirio, the Cultural Association El Real de Manzanares, Amnesty International, the Club Amigos de la Unesco de Madrid (CAUM), ARBA Manzanares, Impulsa Sierra, Hope Palestina, Quejío por Palestina, the Foundation for Aid and Development Proyecto Yamba, the publishing house Los Libros de las Malas Compañías, the Cultural Association Venezuela, Danza y Tambor Internacional, the Watani group of Palestinian folk dances, the Municipal Band and Music School, Antropía, and Global Sumud Flotilla.
Among those who collaborated, the town hall highlights Marisa Tejada, theatre director and coordinator of the Peace Culture Neighbourhood Council; Valentín Oliveros, promoter of the initiative; Ana Barrero, president of the Peace Culture Foundation; Mario Grande from Amnesty International; Joanen Cunyat, for raising awareness of the rights of the Palestinian people; and Carlos Umaña, board member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), an organisation awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
The day also featured artists such as Ana de Lima, actress and speaker; Yoana Siri, storyteller and theatre teacher; Ana Cristina Herreros, from the publishing house Los Libros de las Malas Compañías; Miriam Fernández, with an aerial performance; singers Belén Ananda and Ana Jauregui; Cristopher Simpson, violinist and composer, and Mar Lage, guitarist and singer-songwriter, both in the Cuba Concert; and dancer and researcher Khatoon.
