The Town Hall of Manzanares el Real has organised bicycle workshops, an orienteering challenge, and the closure of Avenida de Madrid to traffic to celebrate European Mobility Week, with special attention to the regulations regarding electric scooters.

The Mobility Department of Manzanares el Real has prepared a programme of participatory activities to join the European Mobility Week 2026, which will take place from Friday, September 18, to Saturday, September 19. This year's edition focuses on the road safety of Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs), especially electric scooters, and the Town Hall reminds users of the current regulations set by the DGT.

Among the mandatory requirements are the use of a certified helmet, visible lighting and reflective elements for riding at night or in low visibility, as well as having the technical certification and the mandatory insurance in force. Additionally, it is prohibited to ride on sidewalks and pedestrian areas, the speed limit is 25 km/h, and the use of headphones or mobile phones, as well as carrying another person on the scooter, is not allowed.

The programme kicks off on Friday, September 18 with the initiative To school by bike, organised by the AFA of Virgen de Peña Sacra school. At 08:40 hours, participants will meet at Plaza del Pueblo to ride their bikes to the educational centres. In the afternoon, at 18:30 hours, an orienteering race will be held, open to all ages, starting also from Plaza del Pueblo. Participants will have to navigate the town centre with a map, locate markers, and complete a road safety test. Registration can be done by sending an email to participacion.ciudadana@manzanareselreal.es or in person.

On Saturday, September 19, Avenida de Madrid will remain closed to vehicular traffic for the entire day to turn it into a pedestrian space where activities will take place. From 11:00 to 13:30 hours, the Pedalibre association will conduct a workshop to learn how to ride a bike safely, and from 11:30 to 13:30 hours, the workshop The Cat with Mota will teach basic bicycle maintenance skills, from inflating tyres to adjusting brakes and gears. In both workshops, it is necessary to bring a bicycle and helmet.

In the afternoon, from 17:30 to 19:30 hours, Young Hour will host a testing session for skateboards and longboards to learn about their features and how to practice this sport. All activities are free and are designed to promote more sustainable forms of mobility among residents of all ages.
