The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council has ratified a €40 million loan with the CEB to cover Metro Line 9B. The work will create a 2.5-kilometre green corridor between the Cerro del Telégrafo sports centre and Rivas Futura.
The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) signed on Monday the financing of €40 million to cover the Metro Line 9B as it passes through the municipality. The ratification event took place at the Cerro del Telégrafo sports centre, the starting point for the works.
The intervention will allow for the construction of a 2.5-kilometre long and 30-metre wide green corridor that will connect the stations of Rivas Urbanizaciones and Rivas Futura, extending the Linear Park. The project aims to link areas that are currently separated, such as the industrial and residential zones.
The mayor of Rivas, Aída Castillejo, stated during the event:
Today we finally start the work on covering the metro, and we do so thanks to the financing from the CEB, which we are fully addressing with municipal resources and thanks to the good financial health of the Rivas City Council.
From the CEB, María Sigüenza highlighted:
The mission of the CEB remains, in essence, the same as it was 70 years ago: to contribute to building more cohesive, inclusive, and resilient societies, a goal that the operation we have just signed with the Rivas City Council fully responds to.
This is the first operation directly financed by a multilateral development bank with the municipality of Rivas. The loan will be allocated to actions included in the Rivas Urban Agenda 2030, which identifies this coverage as a flagship project.
Before the summer, the City Council submitted to the Community of Madrid the project for the construction and execution of the infrastructure, which had previously been approved by the Governing Board. The document outlines the works to cover the 2.5 kilometres of track that currently run at ground level.
