The Town Hall of Tres Cantos suspends the solar eclipse observation programme on August 12 due to the risk of fires and high temperatures. It will distribute 400 certified glasses for those who wish to view it on their own.
The Town Hall of Tres Cantos has cancelled the programme of activities organised for the observation of the solar eclipse on August 12. The decision responds to the extreme fire risk situation in the Community of Madrid and the high temperatures of recent weeks.
The measure affects all planned collective activities, but the Council maintains a way for residents to safely follow the phenomenon. 400 certified glasses will be distributed free of charge at the access control of the Town Hall, on a first-come, first-served basis until stocks run out.
In addition, vehicle access to the Valdeloshielos estate, an area of special environmental protection near El Monte de El Pardo, will be restricted. The aim is to avoid any fire risk in a particularly sensitive natural environment this summer.
The Town Hall calls for caution for those who decide to observe the eclipse from open spaces. It urges people to take extra precautions and avoid any behaviour that could trigger a fire.
It also reminds everyone of the importance of following visual health recommendations and the instructions from authorities for safe eclipse viewing. The glasses will be available from today at the main entrance of the Town Hall of Tres Cantos.
