The City Council of Aranjuez has been awarded the Seven Stars of Sport Prize from the Community of Madrid 2025, recognising its work in promoting sports and healthy habits.
The City Council of Aranjuez has received the Seven Stars of Sport Prize from the Community of Madrid 2025, in the category of Promoting Sports from Local Administration. This award, one of the most prestigious granted by the regional government, acknowledges the sports policy promoted by the municipality in recent years.
The distinction was communicated to the City Council following the jury's decision and its subsequent ratification by the Governing Council. The jury particularly valued Aranjuez's commitment to promoting sports practice, fostering healthy lifestyles, and using sports as a tool for social cohesion for all residents.
The Community of Madrid has emphasised that the Aranjuez model, which combines sports with the use of its natural heritage, constitutes a reference for the entire region. The mayor, Miguel Gómez Herrero, expressed his satisfaction and stated that the award "belongs to the entire family of riverside sports: clubs, athletes, federations, educational centres, AMPA, technicians, municipal workers, and all residents."
Gómez Herrero has announced that Aranjuez will continue to prioritise sports in its government actions, with improvements to municipal facilities and programmes for all ages. The award is part of the 2024-2025 edition of the prizes, which also recognised riders Álex and Marc Márquez, former basketball player Sergio Rodríguez, athlete María Pérez, and footballer Vicky López.
With this recognition, the riverside municipality consolidates its position as one of the sporting references of the Community of Madrid. The official award ceremony is scheduled for an event organised by the regional government in the coming months.
