The San Lorenzo de El Escorial City Council has scheduled over twenty activities between September 19 and October 3, with the return of the Urban Mile as the main novelty.
The Zaburdón Sports Complex and other municipal spaces in San Lorenzo de El Escorial will host the European Sports Week from September 19 to October 3, featuring a calendar that combines federated competition, family activities, training, and proposals for seniors.
The first event will be on September 19 with a match from the regional badminton circuit for federated players in the absolute category, which will also include an inclusive modality for people with disabilities. The competition will start at 9:00 AM in the main pavilion of Zaburdón.
The following day, September 20, the EuroGym Rhythmic Gymnastics Trophy will bring together gymnasts from various parts of the Community of Madrid at the prenational and national base levels, as preparation for the upcoming qualifying round of the Spanish Championship.
Between September 21 and 25, in the afternoon, the Family Sport and Friend Sport programs will return, linked to the Municipal Sports Schools. The first allows parents to participate alongside their children in sports activities, while the second gives students the option to invite a friend to experience the municipal disciplines.
On September 22, at 5:00 PM, the main pavilion will host a first aid training session for individuals aged 16 and over, focused on knowing how to act in emergencies both inside and outside the sports context.
On September 23 and 24, it will be the turn of Mayoresport, aimed at promoting physical activity among those over 65 years old. On Wednesday the 23rd, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, there will be an Aquagym masterclass in the pool. On Thursday the 24th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the 7-a-side football field at Zaburdón will host an introductory class to ground golf, and from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Felipe II Park will be the venue for an open gymnastics class for seniors.
The relationship between sports and well-being will be the focus of the day on September 25, with a conference on sports and mental health at 7:00 PM in the Cultural Centre, open to all interested parties and recommended for ages 10 and up.
The sports weekend will arrive on September 26 with a women's futsal triangular tournament in the categories of prebenjamín, infantil, and senior, starting at 10:00 AM in the south pavilion of Zaburdón. On September 27, the three pavilions of the sports complex will be bustling with activity: the main pavilion will host a senior individual badminton match from 9:00 AM, the south pavilion will have a 3x3 basketball competition from benjamín to cadete, and there will be an aikido demonstration.
The major novelty of this edition will be the revival of the Urban Mile, which will take place on Saturday, October 3 at 6:30 PM along Juan de Borbón and Battenberg avenue, with the Monastery as a backdrop. The event will be open to runners from the Sub-8 category to Masters.
The Mile will be complemented by a masterclass from local athlete Lucía Rodríguez Montero, an Olympic semi-finalist in the 5,000 meters and trained in the Municipal Sports Schools. The meeting will be on Friday, October 2 at 6:00 PM on Juan de Borbón and Battenberg avenue, where participants can share training and experiences with the athlete.
