Mayor Judith Piquet values the installation of the Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Cloud of the Community of Madrid, which could generate up to 600 jobs in the city.
The mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Judith Piquet, celebrated on Tuesday the selection of the city to host the Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Cloud of the Community of Madrid, a project presented at the Town Hall by the Minister of Digitalisation, Miguel López-Valverde.
The initiative, which could generate up to 600 jobs, reinforces the regional government's commitment to turning Alcalá into a technological hub. Piquet expressed her gratitude for “the commitment of the government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the Ministry of Digitalisation” for choosing the city of Alcalá.
The mayor emphasised that Alcalá, in addition to being a World Heritage City, is moving towards a model of quality industry. “We have the obligation to preserve, conserve and disseminate our historical and cultural legacy to the world, but since the beginning of this legislature, we have also been clear that we wanted to continue betting on a model of quality industry,” she stated.
Piquet recalled Alcalá's industrial tradition, with sectors such as pharmaceuticals and logistics, and highlighted the Town Hall's willingness to join the technological transformation led by the region. “We wanted to be at the forefront and be part of that technological hub that the Community of Madrid has become, which is already the second most important region in Europe in this field,” she pointed out.
Over the past three years, the Town Council has worked to attract investments and support technology companies, especially in the Scientific-Technological Park. The mayor highlighted the collaboration between administrations, companies, and academic entities, with a key role played by the University of Alcalá.
“When administrations and entities work together, we achieve progress: our region advances as a technological engine and Alcalá de Henares progresses with the implementation of projects like this,” she assured.
The project will strengthen economic activity and job opportunities in the city. Piquet concluded: “Anything that means job creation and economic dynamism can only be received with gratitude and, of course, with pride.”
